PodCamp Ireland 2008: Content Themes
By Krishna De on May 31, 2008 in podcampireland08, Social Media Ireland
As I mentioned recently, we’ve been starting to plan for PodCamp Ireland 2008.
One of the areas we have been discussing are the themes we’d think would be of value to participants.
Yes this is a unconference, so speakers can be anyone who has something of value to say about social media and how tey are using it to build their brand, build community or connect to friends and family.
However we have found that stimulating thoughts for themes and topics encourages people to think of what they could talk about.
One of our goals with PodCamp Ireland is to always be inclusive - it doesn’t matter what age you are or how ungeek or high tech you are you are welcome to join us.
We’ll have content relevant to the complete social media newbie through to the opportunity to connect, network and learn from some of the experts in social media in Ireland if last year is anything to go by.
Here are some of the idea’s we’ve had for things we think attendees would find of interest:
- Live demo’s on how to create a podcast jingle
- Finding your feet on Flickr
- Tricks and tactics with Twitter
- The power of Storytelling in social media
- Socialising on social networks
So get your thinking caps on - what would you like to hear about? And what would you like to speak about?
And if you are a little nervous about speaking in public, I’ll make the same offer as last year - anyone who wants to speak and would like a telephone mentoring meeting about their session at PodCamp Ireland 2008, all you have to do is ask.

Krishna,
How about something on encouraging older internet users to get involved in social media?

I’d be keen to come along to this and bring la famille with me for a wee holiday either side. ALL of these themes are up my street. I think the power of story is still underestimated, by corporates, geeks, educators… you name it. I’d be keen to push some boundaries on storytelling here.

@Mike - great idea - last year we had Grannymar with us talking about blogging. The more we can show how social media can connect the generations and how different generations are using social media the better. Do keep the idea’s rolling and of course if you would like to lead a session let me know.
@Ewan - it would be great if you could join us and make a weekend of being in Ireland with your family. And again if you’d like to host a session let me know. I agree that few of understand the power of storytelling and how it can be used to great effect. At our planning meeting today we even discussed how storytelling might become our overall theme for PodCamp Ireland 2008.

Krishna,
I hope to get my reservations made this week (still shopping for the best price). I’d be happy to lead a session if you think anyone would be interested in listening to a crazy American.

@Mike - let us know if there is anything you need us to help with in terms of your itinerary on the ground.
And absolutely yes - we would love to have you lead a session. We’ll let you know when we have finalised the site for adding suggestions and will be probably following the Reboot model for deciding on the final sessions.
Call me or Skype me if you have questions - we’re thrilled you will be with us.

@Mike, @Ewan - Love to have you both along for PodCamp in Kilkenny this year. Being the Kilkenny resident on the organising team I’m sure you’ll have a great time in the city in September, both at PodCamp and enjoying the surrounds!

We plan to invite the voices from the Bealtaine Radio Series to Kilkenny from the Sue Ryder Retirement Centre in Holycross. They are a charming crew with stories to share.

The travel agent has my (non-refundable)money so there’s no turning back now. My wife and I are really looking forward to the trip and to Podcamp. We’ll be in Ireland for ten days beginning 9/23. See you then.
