So perhaps you have been blogging for a little while. You are delighted with the progress you are making; you are getting more confident in writing your articles and you’ve even got a few comments being posted by your readers.

Or perhaps your podcast is now showing up in iTunes and you are noticing ever increasing numbers of podcast episodes being downloaded.

But have you remembered to make sure that your blog, Twitter account and podcasts are being listed in some of the key Irish directories?

While we’ve been blogging here at PodCamp Ireland for a year or so, I realised this week that we had not registered our blog in the Irish blog directories - sites that have a good ranking and where potential readers might go to browse to find out who’s blogging about what here in Ireland.

So here are 4 actions I took this week:

I registered PodCamp Ireland’s blog at irishblogs.ie

I submitted PodCamp Ireland’s blog feed to irishblogs.com

I submitted our Twitter ID to twit.ie which is an aggregator for Irish Twitter and Jaiku users

I submitted our podcast fee to PodcastingIreland.ie

(At the time of writing this, we are not yet showing up in the PodcastingIreland.ie directory or in Twit.ie - irishblogs.ie and irishblogs.com were super efficient at listing us)

Remember that blogging, Twittering and podcasting are all ways to create a community around your business and your brand, but it’s also important to become part of the community of people engaging in social media here in Ireland - if for no other reason that there are people who are taking the same journey and they are incredibly supportive.

Yes social media is great to build connections and relationships with people across the world as I reflected on with a new social network I joined last week which inspired my thought for the day yesterday - that we need never be lonely again if we are connected through social networking.

But there are are also some terrific people online in social media - and they may even be in your own home town.

So go on, get listed in the Irish blogging and podcasting directories today.

And if you have suggestions for other directories you think we should get listed in, do let me know.

Mitch Joel of the Six Pixels of Separation podcast I thought would come up with an interesting place for his most unusual place to podcast from.

I remember listening to one show where he recorded it on a plane coming back from a conference. Not something I think the RyanAir crew would welcome here in Ireland me thinks!

I did wonder how he managed to get such a good recording.

Here is Mitch’s comments on his most unusual place to podcast from:

The Andaman Sea - right off the beach in Thailand was probably the most unusual. I just recorded it live as I strolled along the beach in the sunset.

That being said, I like finding unusual places to record. I’ve Podcast from the country when I was away on a fishing trip. I’ve recorded a show in a plane on a flight from Los Angeles to New York and more.

I think that’s the fun of it all - finding new places to record and share.

Far more exotic than the locations I shared in my original article Mitch! Though I could imagine myself there now…….

I’m wondering if the people travelling to PodCamp Ireland 2008 from overseas will decide to podcast their thoughts after this years event on the planes taking them home?

You might recall I asked a question about where you podcast from.

Well the terrific Donna Papacosta (hers is one podcast I never miss) shared her thoughts in response to that question.

Here’s what she said:

Well, I’m a bit of a stickler for sound, so when I’m recording my own podcast or podcasts for clients, I like to be in a quiet place, which is usually my studio. Last summer, however, the Town of Oakville decided to replace the huge pipes that carry away storm water, so the road outside my window was a mass of monster trucks and booming noises. On a few occasions, I retreated into the coat closet with my Zoom H4 and my Electrovoice mic. Within the cocoon of wool and cotton, I found silence.

Donna went on to share the fact that she likes to include ambient noise when it adds to the tone of the podcast in the production:

For a client’s podcast last year, I interviewed a man who uses solar energy at his home. Because I wanted listeners to feel the rural location, I captured sound from his field – crickets, wind, and the raw wildness of the place. And I recorded our interview on his front porch, which seemed to make sense.

At conferences, I often walk around grabbing wild sound. When you’re listening to a conference podcast, you expect to hear the hubbub of the exhibition hall, the laughter and clinking of glasses at the opening reception and the buzz in the hallways, as long as you can clearly understand the people who are speaking.

I think these are terrific points and it’s something I too am a stickler for on our premium programmes and podcasts in my business.Yes content is King but for your listeners ears podcast production values are Queen.

I’d love to bring you better quality audio (hopefully we are improving each week) in our PodCamp Ireland podcasts and I had a conversation with John C. Havens of Blog Talk Radio today about just that question - how can we enhance the listening enjoyment in terms of sound quality with their terrific product.

John and I will be speaking again soon and I’ll share his guidance with you for anyone who wants to create heir own podcast without needing any technical support - literally just a phone.

What tips do you have for creating podcasts with high production values?

Have you had chance to listen to our first PodCamp Ireland podcast? Did you wonder what the music was?

Did it remind you of club nights on holiday in the sun versus the dismal weather we have been having in Ireland?

Well I do admit it’s been a while since I was clubbing, but I hope the music was upbeat and vibrant - just like we hope PodCamp Ireland will be.

The track is ‘A Night In Ibiza’.. So what’s the connection with Ireland you might ask?

Well it’s mixed by Irish DJ Steffen Coonan. Born in Clonmel, he’s been a DJ for 10 years and he graciously makes his music available for podcasters to use as podsafe music. Remember if you are using music in your video’s or podcasts to make sure that you have the rights to use it, for example through the Podsafe Music network.

Here’s access to the full track of ‘A Night in Ibiza’. Enjoy!

Oh and don’t forget to join us tomorrow at 9am for our next episode featuring Campbell Scott of Igopeople.com who will be talking about establishing a new social network - listen to the live streaming or dial in to join us on +1 347 826 7790.

So you’ve joined the social media revolution. You’re creating blog posts, podcasts and perhaps you are also uploading all your digital photo’s and video’s to the computer.

You are off to a meeting and you know you have a great audio that would be useful to burn onto a CD to leave with the prospective client. But where did you file it?

Or perhaps you are writing up a report and you need to refer to that white paper that you saved. Where was it you saved it to your hard drive?

As we increasingly create and save more and more information it becomes increasingly harder to keep track of files. In fact that was the conversation we had on this week’s Podcast Sisters podcast where we were talking about the tools we use to bookmark information.

That’s where the new service Putplace becomes really valuable.

At PutPlace you can store your files and access them wherever you are. I only wish I had been a member of PutPlace last year when my hard drive failed and I had to operate with a temporary PC for some 6 weeks.

PutPlace is currently in Beta and you can therefore use the service free of charge for up to 2GB of space - when the service opens up fully there will be an annual subscription fee based on the amount of data PutPlace handles for you.

And if you have ever had a disaster losing your digital files, PutPlace wants to know about it - send them a photo of your digital despair and you’re in with a chance to win an annual subscription to PutPlace for 100 GB of data and US$200 USD Amazon gift certificate. Five finalists will be selected by the PutPlace team and the voting will then be open to the public. The contest runs between 1 and 31 July 2008 and winners will be announced on 15 August 2008. So go on take a snap of your despair and enter into the PutPlace pull a face competition today.

Are you concerned that you are too old to learn to podcast? Or even too young to learn to podcast?

Earlier this year my 7 year old daughter had a project for school - to record someone from her family and interview them about school life in the ‘olden days’.

Well unfortunately for her, other than her parents (who at times feel ancient), she only has one surviving grandparent and that’s her Granny who lives in England.

So how was she going to complete her project?

Granny is well into her eighties and does get confused at times, so we put a little plan into action.

Elisha drafted her questions and then asked her dad to phone Granny with the questions and to ‘book a time’ for her interview the next day. This gave Granny time to write her self a few notes to remind herself what to cover in the ‘interview’.

The next day, Elisha interviewed her Granny and recorded the call, which we then made into a CD and she used the information she had gleened to write up her report.

Now this wasn’t quite a podcast, but it was a great exercise for her and she was very proud to have recorded her own CD since she often listened to me being played back through the car stereo when I used to broadcast a live radio show.

I read recently that in the UK that this September, the first qualification in podcasting is to be established where students will learn how to make audio and video podcasts.

The course is to be awarded by the NCFE (the National Council for Further Education).

David Grailey, chief executive of the NCFE, stated:

Podcasting is fast becoming a part of everyday life - vicars are delivering sermons via podcasts, police departments are launching ‘crimewatch’ video podcasts and schools and colleges are recording lessons via podcasts. It’s therefore vital that we offer people both an understanding and the skills to utilise this technology.

The article also reported that podcasting in the UK has grown to a population size of 18% and awareness of podcasting at 70%, which seems much higher than my experience in Ireland. Usually at the seminars and events I speak at with regular business leaders well under 20% would have come across the term podcasting.

And remember we are looking forward to meeting podcasters young and old at the forthcoming PodCamp Ireland. In my books you are never too young to start podcasting! And it’s a simple and wonderful way for us to record family events and conversations.

I only wish I’d had the same opportunity as Elisha some 30 years ago when my Granny was alive.
